MILLERSVILLE – Aurielle Mosley had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Mashira Newman had 17 points, five rebounds and eight assists to lead Millersville to a 74-53 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night at Pucillo Gymnasium.
Leola Pinkney added 14 points and nine steals and Sophia Waters had 12 points as Millersville (10-5, 7-4 PSAC) put four players in double figures and used a 20-6 run to open the second half to pull away from the Warriors.
Senior forward
Cyara Woodridge scored 18 points for ESU (6-9, 3-8), shooting 7-for-11 from the field, but the Warriors shot 30.9 percent (17-for-55) overall and 3-for-12 from the three-point line.
Freshman forward
Jessica Martin, the reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week, had five points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots, giving her an ESU freshman-record 35 blocked shots on the season. Martin, third in the PSAC with 2.4 blocks per game, had at least two blocks for the 12th time in 15 games this season. She surpassed the total of 33 blocks by Tonia Lloyd in 1986-87.
Junior forward
Fayola Moise and sophomore guard
Andrea Veres both scored eight points and redshirt freshman guard
Steph Cabald added a career-high seven for the Warriors. Cabald had five points in the first half as ESU stayed close, trailing 26-20 going into intermission.
Veres, who scored a career-high 22 points in a 62-55 win over Kutztown on Saturday, made two three-pointers to give her 62 for her career, tied for 10th in school history.
The Warriors were outrebounded by just three, 47-44, but Mosley, the PSAC's top rebounder the last two seasons, had seven offensive boards and helped Millersville to 18 second-chance points. The Marauders also had 33 points off turnovers and had 17 steals on 29 ESU turnovers.
ESU, which is 3-3 in its last six games, returns to action on Saturday at Shippensburg. The Lady Raiders (7-8, 4-7) hold a one-game lead on ESU for fourth in the PSAC East after a 63-58 loss at West Chester on Wednesday night.
