ESU Wrestling Tops Ohio Valley, 30-10, on First Night of Super Region 1 Duals

JOHNSTOWN – Freshman Chris Davis (133) and junior Tony Vorndran (174) both had their first career pins as East Stroudsburg University opened the Super Region 1 Duals with a 30-10 victory over Ohio Valley on Friday night at Pitt-Johnstown.

The Warriors posted bonus point margins in four of their five wins on the mat, starting with Davis' pin of Josue Rodriguez at 133.

Redshirt senior Adam Hluschak won a 14-0 major decision at 141, improving to 22-6 on the season with his fifth straight win and ninth in 10 matches. After a double forfeit at 149, redshirt sophomore Braden Turner recorded his third technical fall of the season by a 17-2 count midway through the second period at 157.

Vorndran had a first-period pin of Justin Smith at 174, giving the Warriors a 27-4 lead after freshman Michael Honeywell picked up a forfeit victory at 165.

At 197, redshirt senior Ed Ebewo returned to the mat for the first time since December 17 and used an escape, takedown and two near fall points in the second period for a 5-0 decision. Ebewo, ranked No. 7 in Division II, improved to 10-3 on the season and is 5-0 against DII competition.

Redshirt junior Joe Blaes fell to Blake Lucas, 2-1:tb1, in the final bout of the night at 285 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Will Esposito lost an 8-5 decision at 184 and freshman Zach Jones fell by major decision at 125.

The Warriors take on Gannon and No. 14-ranked West Liberty on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. They faced both schools last weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Duals at Ashland, falling 26-18 to Gannon and 26-10 to West Liberty.
