SHIPPENSBURG – Shippensburg put four players in double figures, led by 13 points from Shawna Wert, in a 63-44 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House.
Monae Baker had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Caitlin Bamberger had 11 points and nine rebounds and Sarah Strybuc had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists for Shippensburg (8-8, 5-7 PSAC), which led 31-6 at halftime. Dana Wert added nine points to round out the starting five, which scored 54 of Ship's 63 points.
Freshman guard
Ryann Fiascki scored a career-high 14 points, 13 in the second half, and freshman forward
Jessica Martin had eight points, nine rebounds, two blocks and three steals for ESU (6-10, 3-9). Fiascki made all three of her three-point attempts, was 3-for-5 from the field and 5-for-6 at the foul line.
Shippensburg closed the first half on a 12-0 run over the final 11:17 and scored the first five points of the second half before ESU broke the stretch with a basket by junior forward
Fayola Moise three minutes into the half. Including a 7-0 run after the field goal, Shippensburg put together a 24-2 stretch to lead 43-8 at the under-16 minute media timeout.
ESU shot 24.6 percent (14-for-57) for the game after going 2-for-27 in the first half. The Warriors were 4-for-16 from long range and 12-for-17 at the foul line, while Shippensburg was 43.4 percent (23-for-53) overall, 6-for-14 on three-pointers and 11-for-15 at the line. ESU had a slight 18-17 advantage in turnovers forced.
The Warriors host Bloomsburg on Wednesday at 6 p.m. after playing away from Koehler Fieldhouse in both games this week. The Huskies (14-4, 8-4) fell to second in the PSAC East after a 79-65 loss at new division-leader West Chester on Saturday.
