EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior forward Fayola Moise had an offensive rebound and putback with 2.8 seconds left as East Stroudsburg University upset PSAC East leader West Chester, 60-58, on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Moise had nine points and 14 rebounds, sophomore guard Andrea Veres had 14 points and eight steals, freshman guard Ryann Fiascki had 13 points and five assists and freshman forward Jessica Martin had 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for ESU (7-11, 4-10 PSAC), which beat West Chester for the first time since 2007 and just the third time since 1996. WCU was 28-2 in the last 30 meetings.

West Chester (14-4, 10-4) rallied from a 32-13 halftime deficit, using an 18-0 run to cut into a 21-point ESU lead, to take a 55-53 lead on two free throws by Allison Hostetter with 2:31 left. Fiascki answered with a layup the next time down and the Golden Rams never led again.

Veres broke the tie, going 1-for-2 at the line after a steal and foul with 57 seconds left, then made two more with 35.9 seconds remaining for a 58-55 lead. Hostetter tied the game at 58-all on a three-pointer with 18.3 seconds on the clock, but Moise cleaned up Fiascki's missed layup at the other end of the last of her eight offensive rebounds. Hostetter's midcourt shot hit off the backcourt at the buzzer to give the Warriors the upset.

ESU used a 25-2 run to stun the Golden Rams in the first half. West Chester led 5-0 early before the Warriors rattled off a 14-minute stretch in which they held WCU to just one field goal.

Ambreelinne Ortman scored 18 points, Alex Lennon had 13 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks and Paige Elliott also added 13 points for West Chester.

ESU scored eight straight points after falling behind at the outset, then scored 17 straight after Elliott hit a jumper with 13:34 remaining. Those were West Chester's last points until the 3:41 mark, with the Golden Rams going 0-for-10 from the field, 0-for-2 at the foul line and committing seven turnovers in the ensuing 10 minutes.

A jumper by Martin provided the final points of the first half before West Chester scored the first seven points of the second half to pull within 32-20. That was as close as they would get until the nine-minute mark of the second half, as ESU pushed its advantage to 21 (41-20) with a 9-0 run to take its biggest lead of the game with 13:38 remaining.

The Warriors still led by 21 (46-25) with 12:13 left when the Golden Rams began their 18-0 run which covered just six minutes. Back-to-back three's by Ortman and Elliott cut a 16-point deficit to 10, and Ortman hit another three with 7:34 left to make it 46-43.

ESU stemmed the tide from the free throw line, going 27-for-36 for the game and 16-for-23 in the second half from the stripe. The Warriors outscored West Chester (6-for-12) by 21 at the foul line overall.

Fiascki made 1-of-2 with 7:02 left, her only miss on 12 attempts, and Veres went to the line on ESU's next trip to open a 49-43 advantage. A steal and layup by Veres made it an eight-point game, but West Chester battled back with two free throws by Ortman followed by a three from Elliott that cut it to three (51-48) with 5:00 left.

Elliott hit a jumper with 3:33 left to bring the Golden Rams within one, and tied it with a three-pointer with 3:00 remaining. Hostetter's two free throws with 2:31 left gave West Chester its first lead since 5-4, but the Warriors responded down the stretch.

Neither team was effective from the field – West Chester shot 33.3 percent (22-66) and ESU shot 28.6 percent (16-56, 1-15 from 3) – and both teams committed 28 turnovers. ESU held a 48-42 advantage on the glass, with the Warriors grabbing 23 offensive boards, including eight from Moise and five from Martin. West Chester had 20 offensive rebounds with Lennon grabbing seven.

The Warriors went most of the way with their starting five, with redshirt senior forward Brittany McClain (six points, four rebounds in 27 minutes) and sophomore forward Nicole Hill (four rebounds in 12 minutes) the only reserves seeing at least 10 minutes of action.

Veres played 35 minutes and Fiascki played 34 in the backcourt, while Martin logged 33 minutes and Moise had 30 minutes in the front court.

Martin extended her freshman record for blocked shots, now at 43, which ranks fifth in school history. She also moved into the career top 10 for blocked shots in her 18th career game. She has at least two blocks in five straight games and 15 games overall this season.
