SLIPPERY ROCK - Senior Frank Fezza was second in the men's race and senior Corinne Fitzgerald was third in the women's to lead the Warriors individually, and East Stroudsburg University's runner-up finish on the men's side was its best since 1994 on Saturday at the PSAC Cross Country Championships at Slippery Rock.

Fezza ran 25:19.3, finishing 11 seconds behind Lock Haven's Alex Monroe, for ESU's best individual finish since Jack Cuvo was runner-up in 1985. The men's second-place showing is its fourth overall, joining runner-up teams in 1979, 1985 and 1994.

Sophomore Chris Schneider was seventh (25:58.1) and senior Mike Pereira was eighth (26:06.3) to give ESU three in the top 10 for the first time since 1985. Senior Amr Aldeen was 13th in 26:16.6 and senior Jim Romano rounded out the scorers, placing 31st (26:42.4)

Fezza is All-PSAC for the third time (2009, 2011, 2012), Pereira for the second straight year and Schneider and Aldeen for the first time in their careers.

Fitzgerald's third-place finish, ESU's best since Vanessa Andes was second in 2004, came in a time of 22:23.8. An NCAA qualifier and sixth-place finisher in the PSAC last year, Fitzgerald finished after Shippensburg's Katie Spratford (21:32.1) and Bloomsburg's Victoria Davis (21:42.1) while holding off Edinboro's Sarah Krolick, West Chester's Amanda Eisman and Edinboro's Kacey Gibson.

Junior Kim Wernerspach, 19th last year, moved up to 15th this season. Senior Rose Mascoli joined Fitzgerald by earning All-PSAC honors for the third straight year, finishing 19th after running 12th in 2010 and fifth in 2011. Freshman Abby Ross was 64th and junior Kim Lowry was 79th.

The Warriors will send a contingent to Lock Haven's River Run next Saturday before returning to the Haven on Saturday, November 3 for the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.
