MILLERSVILLE – Junior forward
Kerri McClay scored her first goal of the season 3:27 into the second overtime to lift East Stroudsburg University to a crucial 1-0 (2OT) win at Millersville in PSAC women's soccer on Saturday afternoon.
McClay's goal gave the Warriors (8-3-4, 7-2-3) their first overtime win of the season after four ties as they keep pace with the conference leaders. ESU is in sole possession of fifth in the PSAC standings with 24 points, one ahead of Edinboro, which hosts ESU on Wednesday.
ESU held a 24-7 advantage in shots, but Millersville (4-8-4, 1-8-3) goalkeeper Olivia Webber had 15 saves before the game-winner from McClay, who led the Warriors with five goals last year and now has nine in her career. Junior
Brittain Wagner had three saves for her fourth shutout of the season and the seventh solo shutout of her career.
The Warriors, ranked seventh in the initial NCAA Atlantic Region rankings released earlier this week, went 2-0 this week starting with a 2-1 win over West Chester, the region's top team and ranked No. 6 nationally.
ESU improves to 19-5-1 against Millersville and avenged a 2-1 road loss last season which ended a 10-game winning streak in the series.
ESU is 4-1-2, with its only loss coming to defending regional champion California (1-0), since a pair of losses in late September.
The Warriors have three games next week to finish the regular season. They host Molloy on Sunday at 7 p.m. at East Stroudsburg South High School (making up a postponed game from Sept. 18), travel to Edinboro on Wednesday and host Bloomsburg next Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
