Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University scored all four of its goals in a stretch of 12:18 in the first half to post a shutout win over Molloy in non-conference women's soccer on Sunday night at East Stroudsburg South High School.

The Warriors (9-3-4) completed a 3-0 week in a game that was postponed on September 18 due to inclement weather. They opened the week with a 2-1 win over No. 6-ranked West Chester, and earned a 1-0 (2OT) win at Millersville to clinch a PSAC Tournament berth on Saturday.

Junior forward Kerri McClay, whose first goal of the season was the game-winner at Millersville, opened the scoring on Sunday night, scoring 14:24 into the game assisted by junior back Michelle Gogolen and freshman forward Sammi Jo Hughes.

Hughes struck next, 49 seconds later, and the Warriors added two more goals in the next 11 minutes. Redshirt junior back Carly Collins scored on a header off a corner kick taken by senior midfielder Marissa Spitler in the 21st minute, and senior midfielder Ashley McKenna finished the scoring run in the 27th minute.

The Warriors' four goals in the first 27 minutes is their fastest start to a game since at least 2003.

Junior Brittain Wagner made three saves in the first half and redshirt senior Melissa Myers played the second half in goal for ESU, which notched its second straight shutout and fifth of the season. The Warriors had an 18-7 advantage in shots and played 22 field players, along with their two goalkeepers.

McClay's goal was the 10th of her career, leading all current Warriors. Collins had her ninth goal (eighth off a corner kick or free kick), McKenna scored for the eighth time and Spitler had her 11th career assist. Hughes, who has started all 16 games as a freshman, is tied for the team lead with four goals and leads ESU with five assists for 13 points.

Wagner improved to 9-2-4 in goal, raised her save percentage to .848 and lowered her goals against average to 0.77. Her goals against average has been below 1.0 for the entire season.

The Warriors, who have qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2009, have two conference games remaining this week. They are currently fifth with 24 points (7-2-3) and travel to sixth-place Edinboro (23 points, 7-3-2) on Wednesday. They host Bloomsburg (5-9-1, 3-8-1) to finish the regular season on Saturday. The PSAC quarterfinals will be played Tuesday, Oct. 30.

ESU was ranked No. 7 in the first NCAA Atlantic Region rankings released this week prior to going 3-0. The top six schools in the final regional rankings will be selected for the NCAA Division II Tournament. The next set of rankings is expected to be announced on Wednesday.
