Watch: DeVico scores game-tying goal
EAST STROUDSBURG - Freshman forward
Madeline DeVico scored her first career goal in the 59th minute to tie the game at 1-1, and East Stroudsburg University and Slippery Rock were scoreless the rest of the way in PSAC women's soccer on Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The tie, ESU's fourth this year - all by a 1-1 score - puts the Warriors (5-2-4 overall) at 4-1-3 in their first eight PSAC games as they aim for their first postseason berth since 2009.
Slippery Rock (7-3-1, 4-3-1), a PSAC semifinalist the last two years, took the early lead on a goal by Shelby Ward, assisted by Izabel Scott and Lucy Hannon, in the 16th minute.
The Warriors got it back when freshman forward
Sammi Jo Hughes set up DeVico with her third assist of the season a third of the way through the second half.
Slippery Rock had a golden opportunity to win the game late in regulation, but Steph Buckenheimer put a penalty kick over the goal of ESU junior
Brittain Wagner with 2:07 remaining.
Wagner had seven saves and Rock's Dana O'Neill had four saves on the evening. Slippery Rock had a 16-13 edge in shots and ESU had one more corner kick, 4-3.
Wagner lowered her goals against average to 0.83 and is 5-1-4 in 10 starts this season.
The Warriors, beaten just once in their first eight PSAC games, travel to Shippensburg (5-4-3, 3-4-2) on Tuesday before hosting defending PSAC champion California next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
