LOCK HAVEN - Senior Frank Fezza finished second, East Stroudsburg University's best-ever individual finish, to lead the Warriors to their first trip to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships since 1989 on Saturday at the Atlantic Regional at Lock Haven.

Fezza, sophomore Chris Schneider (16th), senior Mike Pereira (19th), senior Amr Aldeen (26th) and senior Jim Romano (32nd) combined for 95 points, tied with Lock Haven for second and just edging fourth-place Slippery Rock, which had 97.

The Warriors' runner-up showing is their best ever and comes a year after they were edged by two points for the region's third and final spot at the NCAA Championships.

Edinboro won the team title with 34 points and Lock Haven's Alex Monroe was the individual champion. ESU was also the runner-up to Edinboro at the PSAC Championships.

In the women's race, ESU finished ninth led by a third straight All-Region performance by senior Corinne Fitzgerald, who was seventh in 21:28.4 and seven seconds off a return trip to the NCAA Championships with a fifth-place finish. Senior Rose Mascoli was 26th, followed by junior Kim Wernerspach (33rd), freshman Abby Ross (23:37.0) and junior Kim Lowry (23:41.5).

Fezza's time of 30:53.4 was 12 seconds off Monroe's pace and repeated their finish at the PSAC Championships two weeks ago.

Schneider came through in 31:56.2, Pereira in 32:00.3, Aldeen in 32:09.6 and Romano in 32:20.8 to give the Warriors their fourth trip to the NCAA Championships, following appearances in 1985, 1987 and 1989.

Schneider is All-Region for the second straight year and Pereira earned his third career All-Region honor after placing 24th as a freshman in 2009 and 22nd last year. Fezza is also three-time All-Region, finishing 15th in 2009 and 18th last year.

ESU's previous top individual finish was fourth by Seth Kuchar in 1995 at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The NCAA Championships will be held November 17 in Joplin, Mo., hosted by Missouri Southern.
