ERIE - Mercyhurst got 30 points from its bench, including two double-figure scorers, as the Lakers held off East Stroudsburg University for a 63-49 win in the PSAC women's basketball opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore guard Ryann Fiascki scored 14 points, two off her career-high, and sophomore forward Jessica Martin had eight points and 12 rebounds to lead ESU (1-3, 0-1) in the first half of this weekend's trip to northwestern Pennsylvania. The Warriors play at No. 11-ranked Gannon on Sunday.

Mercyhurst (1-2, 1-0) was 10-for-21 from the three-point line and shot 48.8 percent (20-for-41) overall to offset 26 turnovers. Alayna White (13 points, 6 rebounds) and Paris Thomas (10 points, 3-for-3 on three-pointers) both hit double figures off the bench and Dana Banda had 11 points for the Lakers.

Martin, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, just missed her third straight double-double after averaging 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in the Pocono Classic last weekend. She entered this weekend as the conference's top rebounder and is averaging 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds through four games.

ESU shot 30.6 percent (15-for-49), 1-for-10 from three-point range and had 21 turnovers. Both teams ranked in the bottom four in the PSAC in scoring offense coming into the contest.

ESU led 7-2 through the first five minutes before a 14-2 run gave Mercyhurst the lead for good. The Lakers hit four of their six first-half three-pointers during the stretch and led 30-23 at intermission.

Mercyhurst extended its lead to 49-34 in the first nine minutes of the second half, but ESU went on a 10-1 run to get back into the contest before the Lakers pulled away. A layup by Fiascki got the Warriors within 50-44 with 7:33 left, but they hit just one more field goal the rest of the way.

Fiascki was the only Warrior in double figures, followed by Martin with eight and senior forward Fayola Moise with six points. Freshman guard Helena Gemmell had four points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Gannon (5-1) is coming off a 66-59 win over Kutztown on Saturday. Tip-off on Sunday at the Hammermill Center is at 1 p.m.
