WILKES-BARRE - Senior Sami Vavra, junior Allison Schafer and sophomore Karoline Vavra set school records as East Stroudsburg University finished its fall semester schedule at the Diamond City Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

ESU finished first of eight schools and was the only Division II team in the field. Scranton and Misericordia led the Division III challengers.

Sami Vavra broke the school record in the 200 breast in a time of 2:27.05, lowering the previous record of 2:27.05 set by Sarah Roscioli in 2010. Her time is the eighth-best in the PSAC this season. Vavra also set records in the 50 (30.74) and 100 (1:06.70) last year and was second in the 100 breast (1:08.05) this weekend.

Karoline Vavra broke the 200 free record with a time of 1:57.37, edging the mark of 1:57.53 recorded by Sally Kaminski in 2006. She adds the record to her 100 free record from last season. She won the 50 free in 24.64 and 100 free in 53.55, seven-hundredths off her record of 53.48.

Schafer broke a 26-year old school record in the 1650 free, swimming 18:12.84 to surpass the mark of 18:17.09 by Jackie Rulon in 1987. Schafer, who also holds records in the 500 (5:13.55) and 1000 (10:41.63), won the 500 free in 5:15.01 and 400 IM in 4:47.14.

Karoline Vavra's time in the 200 free ranks 15th in the PSAC, and Schafer's time in the 1650 ranks 17th on last week's performance list.

The Warriors had two additional winners in senior Kimberly Lawson and freshman Sophie Coy.

Lawson won the 100 fly (59.57) and was second in the 100 back (1:00.65) and 200 back (2:11.78). Coy took the 100 breast (1:07.93) and 200 IM (2:14.09) and was fourth in the 200 breast in 2:30.29, one-tenth off Roscioli's previous school record.

Junior Andrea Tremper was second in both the 50 free (25.00) and 200 free (2:03.88) behind Karoline Vavra. Sophomore Mara Palazzari was third in the 100 fly (1:00.91) and fourth in the 100 free (56.17).

ESU won all five relays with four swimmers (Karoline Vavra, Lawson and Coy) contributing to four each. Sami Vavra and Tremper contributed to three relays and Schafer and Palazzari also swam legs on one relay.

In the 200 free, Karoline Vavra, Sami Vavra, Tremper and Lawson swam 1:38.58. The 400 free (3:40.33) was Karoline Vavra, Coy, Lawson and Tremper, and 800 free (8:03.99) was Schafer, Karoline Vavra, Palazzari and Coy.

ESU's quartet of Lawson, Sami Vavra, Coy and Tremper won the 200 medley in 1:51.32. The 400 medley of Sami Vavra, Coy, Lawson and Karoline Vavra won in 4:01.40.

The Warriors will travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands for their winter trip in early January and resume their dual schedule at LIU Post on January 15.
