Tyson Searer won by decision at 197 pounds for East Stroudsburg University's only points in a 45-3 dual loss at Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon.
Searer, ranked No. 3 in Super Region 1, had a 4-2 decision over Tyler Landfried to improve to 6-4 on the season. Searer is 4-1 against Division II competition and is under consideration for a top-eight national ranking in the most recent Basford rankings, released Wednesday.
ESU was without a pair of nationally-ranked wrestlers in redshirt junior
Braden Turner, ranked #4 by the NWCA at 157 pounds, and redshirt junior
Brendan McKeown, ranked #5 at 174 pounds.
Mercyhurst had regionally-ranked grapplers in six of the first eight bouts and won four matches by fall, one by technical fall, one by major decision and two by decision. The Warriors also forfeited due to injury at 141.
ESU is away from action until at dual at Wilkes on Tuesday, January 9.
