EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior forward Fayola Moise had the go-ahead putback with 1:13 left, then blocked a shot in the final 10 seconds as East Stroudsburg University posted a 59-56 win over Lock Haven in PSAC women's basketball on Tuesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

ESU (3-5, 2-2) scored the final seven points of the game after Emily Daugherty had a three-point play to put Lock Haven (2-5, 0-4) ahead 56-52 with 2:54 left.

Junior guard Andrea Veres, who led the Warriors with 12 points, hit a three-pointer on ESU's next possession to cut the deficit to one, and Moise grabbed a miss by sophomore forward Jessica Martin and laid it in to put the Warriors on top going into the final minute.

After both teams came up empty on their trips down the floor, Marrysa Moyer had an offensive rebound for Lock Haven with 10 seconds left but Moise blocked the putback attempt, secured the rebound and got the ball to sophomore guard Ryann Fiascki, an 88-percent career free throw shooter. Fiascki sank both with three seconds left and Kacie Hershey's halfcourt shot came up short.

Moise had five points and eight rebounds, Martin had 10 points and seven boards and freshman guard Helena Gemmell had eight points and seven rebounds to lead the Warriors. Fiascki and senior guard Barb Borst both added eight points for ESU, which survived a 26.7 percent (8-for-30) shooting mark in the second half after shooting 57.1 percent (12-for-21) in the first half.

ESU went without a field goal for more than six minutes until Veres' three-pointer that made the score 56-55 with 2:42 remaining.

Lock Haven also had a long stretch without making shot from the floor, from the 8:50 mark until Daugherty's three-point play with less than three minutes to go. Lock Haven shot 38.6 percent overall – 54.2 percent (13-for-24) in the first half and 27.3 percent (9-for-33) in the second half.

Daugherty led Lock Haven with 12 points and seven rebounds, Hannah Gildea scored 10 points, Moyer had eight points and nine rebounds and J.J. Hilliard also chipped in eight points.

ESU had the biggest lead for either team at 10 points (20-10) six minutes into the game before Lock Haven went on a 14-2 spurt. The Warriors led 35-32 at halftime after closing on a 9-2 run.

There were five ties and four lead changes in the second half, with neither team leading by more than five points. ESU had a 39-34 edge two minutes in before an 11-2 Lock Haven run made it 45-41 at the 12-minute mark. Veres made three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt, and back-to-back baskets by Gemmell put ESU in front.

Lock Haven reestablished its lead at the foul line, but the Warriors had enough at the finish by holding LHU scoreless over the final 2:54.

ESU is back on the floor on Wednesday night against Clarion (5-4, 2-2), which has won three straight including a 79-67 win at Kutztown on Tuesday.
