MECHANICSBURG – Sophomore
Allison Schafer broke two school records in the 1000 free and the 200 medley relay set another record for East Stroudsburg University on the first night of the PSAC Swimming Championships on Thursday at Cumberland Valley High School.
Schafer swam a split of 5:13.55 over the first 500 to break the record she set last year, and finished in 10:41.63, taking just under two seconds off the 25-year old record in the 1000 free record she set 12 days ago at the ESU Invitational. She originally set the 500 free record of 5:16.27 last winter at Grove City.
The 200 medley relay of freshman
Shelby Stalnaker, junior
Sami Vavra, junior
Kimberly Lawson and freshman
Karoline Vavra clocked a time of 1:50.01, taking 97-hundredths off the record that
Sami Vavra and Lawson contributed to last year.
Stalnaker led off 28.99 in the backstroke, followed by Vavra (30.16) in the breast, Lawson (26.61) in the fly and Vavra (24.25) in the free.
Schafer placed 19th in the 1000 free and was the top finisher that didn't have a “B” cut for the NCAA Championships. She will have another shot at lowering the 500 free record in the prelims of the event on Friday morning. The 200 medley relay was 11th of 13 squads.
Sophomore
Andrea Tremper and
Karoline Vavra will also compete on Friday in the prelims of the 50 free. The 200 free relay and 400 medley relay will swim in the evening session, which begins at 6 p.m.
