MECHANICSBURG – East Stroudsburg University's swimmers set two more school records, including the 34-year old record in the 200 free relay which had stood since 1978, and sophomore Andrea Tremper made the consolation finals of the 50 free to highlight the second day of the PSAC Swimming Championships on Friday at Cumberland Valley High School.

The quartet of freshman Karoline Vavra (24.90), junior Sami Vavra (24.68), junior Kimberly Lawson (24.09) and Tremper (24.03) combined for a time of 1:37.70, shaving more than a second off the mark of 1:38.82 that was set in 1978.

The Warriors finished seventh in the relay and edged Clarion, last year's 200 free relay champion, by six-hundredths of a second.

The school's original record-setting relay – Diane Adam, Cathy Crigler, Gale Cressman and Karen Linck – won the AIAW national championship in 1978. Crigler and Linck still hold individual marks in ESU's record book.

The Warriors' other relay that competed Friday – the 400 medley – broke their own record that they set in December at Grove City. Lawson, Sami Vavra, sophomore Allison Schafer and Tremper took more than five seconds off their mark of 4:04.88, finishing in 3:59.56 to place ninth overall.

ESU has set school records in all three relays so far at this year's championships. The 200 medley relay of freshman Shelby Stalnaker, Sami Vavra, Lawson and Karoline Vavra had a record-setting time of 1:50.01 on Thursday night. Sami Vavra and Lawson contributed to all three relays.

Tremper was the first Warrior to make a final at the championships on Friday morning, swimming a time of 24.72, bettering her seeded time of 24.97, to place 12th and advance to the consolation finals of the 50 free in the evening. She clocked 24.77 to tie for 12th with Nicole Martin of Bloomsburg. Karoline Vavra tied for 24th in the prelims in 24.96.

Schafer, who set school records in the 500 and 1000 free during the 1000 free on Thursday night, was a quarter-second off her school record in the prelims of the 500 free on Friday morning and less than a second from advancing to the consolation finals.

Schafer swam 5:13.79 on Friday after hitting a 500-yard split of 5:13.55 in the first half of the 1000 free hours earlier on Thursday evening. She broke her own record in the 1000 in 10:41.63.

Lawson was 24th (2:13.87) and Sami Vavra was 28th (2:14.74) in the prelims of the 200 IM.

Coming up on Saturday, Schafer hits the pool again the 400 IM, Lawson goes in the 100 fly, Karoline Vavra swims the 200 free and Sami Vavra competes in the 100 breast. The 800 free relay will be contested on Saturday night and the championships conclude on Sunday.
