WEST CHESTER – Forward Jessica Martin set East Stroudsburg University's record for rebounds in a season by a freshman and moved within three blocks of tying the PSAC's freshman record in the Warriors' 78-54 loss at West Chester in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday afternoon.

Martin had six points, nine rebounds and three blocks, giving her 183 rebounds and 69 blocks this season. She broke the freshman rebounding record of 178 set by Lori Pio in 1992-93 and is approaching the PSAC record of 72 blocks by a freshman set by Shippensburg's Ashley Totedo in 1995-96.

Junior guard Barb Borst hit four three-pointers and scored a season-high 14 points, freshman guard Ryann Fiascki scored 12 points and junior forward Fayola Moise had 10 points for ESU (10-14, 7-13), which upset West Chester 60-58 at Koehler Fieldhouse on January 28.

Allison Hostetter had 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists and Alex Lennon had 11 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks to lead West Chester (18-6, 14-6). Carly Strickland scored nine points off the bench and three other players had eight points for the Golden Rams – Ambreelinne Ortman, Shamyra Hammond and Kendall Benovy.

ESU led 13-12 early in the game after Borst hit back-to-back three-pointers, but West Chester responded with a 13-0 run in less than two minutes to take a double-figure lead. In all, the Golden Rams compiled a 34-8 run in a 12-minute stretch and led 48-26 at halftime. West Chester held its largest lead of the game, 68-35, with 10:29 remaining.

Martin has six double-figure rebounding games this season, including 20 in a double-overtime at Kutztown on February 4, and had her fifth game with nine rebounds to surpass Pio's record for freshman rebounding.

She broke ESU's record for freshman blocks on January 18 at Millersville, the second game of her current 11-game stretch with at least two blocks. She had posted at least four blocks in five straight games entering Saturday. Martin led the PSAC, ranks 12th in Division II and second among the division's freshmen with 2.9 blocks per game coming into the weekend. Her 69 blocks are third in a season and tied for fifth in a career in school history.

The Warriors, who have already secured their first 10-win season since 2008-09, finish the 2011-12 season next week, playing at PSAC East leader Bloomsburg on Wednesday and hosting Cheyney on Saturday.
