MECHANICSBURG – Junior Sami Vavra lowered her own school record in the prelims and finished eighth in the championship final of the 100 breast, and East Stroudsburg University broke its fourth relay record of the weekend in the 800 free relay to highlight the third day of the PSAC Swimming Championships on Saturday at Cumberland Valley High School.

Vavra swam a time of 1:06.70 in the prelims on Saturday morning, lowering her record of 1:07.22 that she set at Grove City in December, and had a time of 1:06.88 in final in the evening session.

The Warriors finished the night by dropping two seconds from the school record in the 800 free relay. Sophomore Allison Schafer, who set school records in the 500 and 1000 free earlier this weekend, led off in 1:57.94, followed by freshman Mara Palazzari (2:02.89), freshman Danielle Davis (2:01.76) and sophomore Andrea Tremper (2:00.80).

ESU's time of 8:03.39 broke the record of 8:05.70 set last year by Schafer, Tara Robinson, Tremper and Amy Rowland.

Junior Kimberly Lawson and freshman Karoline Vavra also made consolation finals for the Warriors, who will finish the four-day meet on Sunday.

Lawson PR'd by seven-tenths of a second in the 100 fly with a time of 59.44 in the prelims, and placed 14th in the finals – the same spot where she finished in the prelims – in 59.64 seconds.

Karoline Vavra dropped more than a second from her personal best in the 200 free, swimming 1:58.02 to place 16th and advance to the consolation final. She swam a time of 1:58.17 on Saturday night and placed 15th in the event.

Schafer was 19th in the 400 IM in 4:46.01, just under two seconds from qualifying for a consolation final spot.

Sunday's action, which begins with prelims at 10 a.m. and closes with the final championship events at 5 p.m., will include Tremper and Karoline Vavra in the 100 free, Sami Vavra in the 200 breast, Lawson in the 200 fly and the 400 free relay.
