ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomores Laura Beimfohr (pole vault) and Elizabeth Madden (weight throw) set school records in their events and Beimfohr hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard to lead East Stroudsburg University at the Mark Deneault Invitational at Cornell on Saturday.

Beimfohr cleared 11-9 3/4 to break her own record of 11-6 1/2 that she set as a freshman and hit the NCAA provisional mark of 11-5 3/4 for the second straight season. Her mark is currently tied for 19th on the DII list as the Warriors tuned up for the PSAC Championships, which will be held next Saturday and Sunday at Edinboro.

Madden had a mark of 51-0 in the weight throw to break the five-year old record of 50-4 set by Amanda Sines in 2007. Madden's previous PR was 49-1 3/4 in the season opener at Lehigh in December, and has posted a five-foot improvement from her freshman record of 46-0 1/2 from last winter.

One other record fell in the men's 300m, where Derrick Washington (36.47) and Brett Yeomans (36.53) both bettered the freshman record of 36.55 set by Scott Shelby in 1988. Washington's time will go down as the new freshman mark.

Smith posted a top 10 time in the 300m, running 43.27, sixth-fastest in school history.

The women's distance crew was paced by sophomore Kim Wernerspach – eighth in the 800m in 2:21.81 (5th in school history) – and junior Rose Mascoli – third in the mile in 5:11.99 (6th in school history).
