MECHANICSBURG – Freshman
Karoline Vavra set school records in the 100 free in both the prelims and consolation finals, and East Stroudsburg University set its fifth relay record of the weekend in the 400 free relay as the Warriors finished the 2012 PSAC Championships on Sunday at Cumberland Valley High School.
Vavra broke the six-year old record in the prelims of the 100 free with a time of 53.57 seconds, then came back to break it again in 53.48 to place 13th in the consolation finals. Vavra came into the weekend with a season-best of 54.32. Sally Kaminski set the previous record of 53.84 in 2006.
Sophomore
Andrea Tremper swam 54.03 in the prelims to claim the final spot in the consolation finals and placed 15th in 54.24 in the evening session. Tremper's 54.03 was a half-second better than her PR of 54.58 entering the meet and is the program's third-fastest time since 1995.
The Warriors finished the championship with another school record, breaking the 400 free mark that was established in 2010 by more than 2.5 seconds. ESU swimmers set all five relay records over the weekend – the 200, 400 and 800 free and 200 and 400 medley.
Junior
Kimberly Lawson swam the Warriors' fastest split on the third leg of the relay, clocking 52.84 to get to Tremper, who finished in 53.41.
Karoline Vavra led off in 53.68 and junior
Sami Vavra, who set the 100 breast record on Saturday, swam 55.37 on the second leg.
ESU's time of 3:35.30 knocked off the old record of 3:37.84 set by Lawson,
Tara Robinson,
Sarah Roscioli and Christine Swiker in 2010.
Sami Vavra and Lawson also competed in individual events on Sunday morning. Vavra swam a PR of 2:30.35 in the 200 breast, just missing Roscioli's school record of 2:30.19, and Lawson had a time of 2:16.79 in the 200 fly.
The Warriors set four individual records along with the five relay records over the weekend. Schafer set marks in both the 500 free (5:13.55) and 1000 free (10:41.63) in the 1000 free finals on Thursday night, and
Sami Vavra set the 100 breast record and made the championship final with a time of 1:06.70 on Saturday morning.
Lawson, Tremper and
Sami Vavra all swam on four of the five record-setting relays. Vavra and Lawson were both on the 200 medley and 400 medley, 200 free and 400 free, and Tremper contributed to the 400 medley and 200, 400 and 800 free relay squads.
A total of eight swimmers swam on the relays.
Karoline Vavra was on three (200 medley, 200-400 free), Schafer was on two (400 medley, 800 free) and three freshmen contributed to one relay –
Shelby Stalnaker (200 medley),
Mara Palazzari (800 free) and
