EAST STROUDSBURG – Ryann Fiascki and Jessica Martin broke PSAC freshman records and East Stroudsburg University sent its three seniors out with a 71-55 win over Cheyney to finish the 2011-12 women's basketball season on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Martin broke the PSAC record for blocks by a freshman in the first half, finishing with five for the game and 76 for the season, and Fiascki went down to the last 10 seconds to set an ESU school record and PSAC freshman record for free throw percentage. Fiascki finished the year at 87.4 percent (83-for-95), edging the 53-year old school record of 87.3 (55-63) set by Lorraine Boyd in 1958-59, by going 2-for-2 for the game's final points.

Fiascki was 7-for-8 at the line for the game and had nine points, five rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Martin had 12 points, five rebounds and five blocks – her sixth game with five blocks this season, and the second in two games against Cheyney.

Redshirt senior forward Brittany McClain had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists, senior guard Cyara Woodridge had eight points and six rebounds to finish as ESU's top scorer this season with 10.4 points per game, and senior guard Jennifer Scherer had three rebounds in their final action for the Warriors (11-15).

Junior guard Barb Borst led ESU with 14 points, going 4-for-7 from the three-point line, and sophomore guard Andrea Veres scored 12 points and knocked down two three's. ESU was 9-for-21 from long distance for the game.

Aerie DeJesus had 17 points and nine rebounds and senior Nadirah Brown had 11 points, six rebounds and six steals to lead Cheyney (0-26), which trailed just 26-24 at halftime before the Warriors rattled off a 12-4 run at the start of the second half and scored 45 points after intermission.

Borst hit three consecutive three-pointers in a span of 2:30 early in the first half after Cheyney took a 7-2 lead. An 8-0 ESU run was the best stretch for either team in the first period as Martin hit a layup, Woodridge scored on an assist from Fiascki, Fiascki knocked down two free throws and assisted on a jumper by junior forward Fayola Moise to put the Warriors ahead 22-15. Borst made two free throws with 33 seconds left to give ESU its two-point halftime lead.

The second half started with eight points from McClain and four points from Veres as the Warriors opened a 38-28 advantage five minutes into the period. A Veres three gave ESU a 12-point margin, and Woodridge knocked down a triple to make it 47-33 with 11:32 left.

Cheyney never got closer than 10 the rest of the way, and Fiascki made five straight free throws in the last 1:37 after missing the front end of a one-and-one. She also had a three-point play in the stretch.

Woodridge finishes her ESU career with 599 points and was the Warriors' top scorer the last two seasons, with 10.4 per game this year and 12.8 per game in 12 games in an injury-shortened junior season. McClain ranks ninth with 72 career three-pointers and scored 422 points, and Scherer had 354 points and 253 rebounds and was the Warriors' second-leading rebounder as a sophomore.

ESU ends the season with 11 wins, two more than its total from the previous two seasons, under second-year head coach Maureen Smith. The Warriors hold sole possession of fifth in the eight-team PSAC East with an 8-14 conference record, including wins over tournament-bound West Chester and Millersville.
