Box Score

KUTZTOWN – Freshman guard Ryann Fiascki hit two free throws with one second left to send the game to a second overtime, freshman forward Jessica Martin had East Stroudsburg University's first 20-rebound game since 1995 and the Warriors held Kutztown to four points over the two overtime sessions for a 56-52 win in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.

ESU (9-11, 6-10 PSAC) overcame a seven-point deficit early in the second half to take a seven-point lead of its own midway through the period before Kutztown (6-16, 4-12) rallied to take a four-point lead late in the game, but the Warriors were able to force overtime.

Fiascki (11 points), the PSAC's top free throw shooter at 89.1 percent (57-for-64) entering the game, went 6-for-6 on the afternoon and hit both after being fouled with a second remaining in the first overtime. Fiascki missed the game-tying shot a moment earlier, but senior guard Cyara Woodridge had the offensive rebound to retain possession for the Warriors.

In the second overtime, a jumper by sophomore guard Andrea Veres (12 points) with 1:52 left and two free throws by Veres with 14 seconds left were the only scoring as Kutztown went 0-for-9 from the field, 0-for-1 at the foul line and had a turnover. The Golden Bears were 1-for-17 from the field and 1-for-3 at the foul line, combined, during the two overtime periods.

Martin, who gave ESU a 50-48 lead with a layup early in the first overtime, grabbed five of her 20 rebounds during the second overtime. Her 20 boards are the most by an ESU player since Lori Pio had 20 in a win over Bridgeport during the 1994-95 season.

Martin also had nine points and five blocks – following her 13-point, 16-rebound, five-block game in a 77-65 win at Cheyney on Wednesday – and was tied for the PSAC lead with 2.5 blocks per game entering the weekend. Her 53 blocks this season are the third-most in school history and 20 more than the freshman record of 33 held by Tonia Lloyd entering the year.

Junior forward Fayola Moise didn't score after setting her career-high with 17 points at Cheyney, but grabbed 18 rebounds – 16 on the defensive end – to team with Martin and help ESU to a 63-54 advantage on the backboards.

ES, which won its third straight game, maintains its spot in fifth in the PSAC East, two games behind Shippensburg (11-9, 8-8) with six games left to play. The Warriors are two games ahead of Kutztown and Mansfield.

Woodridge led ESU with 13 points, including nine during an 18-4 run in the second half as the Warriors turned a 30-23 deficit into a 41-34 lead with 8:40 remaining. Fiascki scored seven points early in the run and Woodridge scored the final seven points of a 9-0 stretch that gave ESU its largest lead of the game.

After the two teams traded baskets, Kutztown came back with an 11-0 run to go ahead 47-43. ESU scored on a jumper by Veres and took the lead on a three-pointer by redshirt senior forward Brittany McClain before Kutztown tied the game at 48-all on 1-of-2 from the line by Advia Campbell with 29 seconds remaining.

In the first overtime, Martin gave ESU the lead on its second possession before Ashley Wood gave Kutztown a 51-50 lead on a three-pointer with 3:18 remaining. That was the only scoring until Avery Hodgson (17 points) made 1-for-2 at the line with 10 seconds left, but Fiascki's two free throws forced the second stanza.

The second overtime saw both teams struggle to score, but Veres' broke the 52-52 tie with a jumper with 1:52 left. Kutztown had five missed shots in the next minute – the last blocked by Moise – but ESU couldn't seal the win at the foul line, going 0-for-4 to keep the Golden Bears alive.

Steph Zewe went to the line for Kutztown with a chance to tie after a defensive rebound with 19 seconds left, but missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Martin controlled the defensive board. Veres was fouled and knocked down two for a four-point lead, Kutztown missed at the other end and Martin grabbed her 20th rebound to seal the victory.

ESU was led offensively by its three double-figure scorers in Woodridge (13), Veres (12) and Fiascki (11). The Warriors shot 27.5 percent (19-for-69) overall, 6-for-17 from the three-point line and 12-for-23 at the foul line.

Kutztown shot 27.3 percent (21-for-77) with its top two scorers, Wood (3-for-21, 8 points) and Andrea Sisson (2-for-10, 5 points) combining for 5-for-31 from the field. Hodgson led the Golden Bears with 17 and was the only player in double figures. Zewe grabbed 17 rebounds.

ESU will look for its first four-game winning streak since winning five straight early in the 2008-09 season, and try to close the gap on fourth-place Shippensburg, on Wednesday at Mansfield. Shippensburg is at first-place Bloomsburg (18-4, 12-4) on Wednesday.
