EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Allison Schafer shattered the school record in the 1000 free by 20 seconds and set the Koehler Fieldhouse record in the 400 IM for East Stroudsburg University at the ESU Invitational on Saturday.

Schafer's time of 10:43.55 broke the previous record of 11:03.66 set by Jackie Rulon in 1987. Schafer swam 11:08.31 in the same event in a dual with Millersville last Saturday. She also had a PR of more than five seconds in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:42.71.

Other winners for the Warriors were freshman Karoline Vavra in the 100 free (55.50), freshman Shelby Stalnaker in the 200 back (2:19.41), junior Sami Vavra in the 200 breast (2:36.31) and junior Kimberly Lawson in the 500 free (5:30.59).

Lawson also swam a personal best in the 100 back, clocking 1:01.77 to finish second and then swimming 1:01.66 in a time trial at the conclusion of the meet. Lawson's time ranks third at ESU since 1995, while Stalnaker's time of 1:02.46 ranks fifth.

Freshman Mara Palazzari swam a time trial of 1:01.40 in the 100 fly, fourth-fastest at ESU since 1995.

Other top 10 entries for ESU are Lawson in the 500 free (8th) and junior Ana Osowski in the 100 fly (9th, 1:02.44).

Three Warriors were second in their events in freshman Danielle Davis in the 50 free (25.37), Lawson in the 100 back and freshman Melissa Smith in the 200 free (2:05.33).

ESU's 200 free relay of Davis, sophomore Andrea Tremper, Karoline Vavra and Lawson was second in 1:42.20.

C.W. Post, Kutztown and Millersville also competed in the invitational, which is ESU's final action before the PSAC Championships on February 16-19 at Cumberland Valley High School.
