Game 1 - L 2-1
Game 2 - W 4-1
MINNEOLA, Fla. – Senior second baseman
Brandi Stettler hit a two-out, bases-clearing double in the fourth inning and freshman
Marianne Wright didn't allow an earned run a complete game effort as East Stroudsburg University won the second game of a doubleheader against Pfeiffer, 4-1, on Monday in Florida.
Pfeiffer scored an unearned run on a hit and an error in the first, but managed just four hits the rest of the game and didn't advance a runner past first base for the final five innings.
Stettler delivered the go-ahead blow after singles by senior 3B
Rachel Gieringer and freshman DH
Cara McNeil and a walk by senior 1B
Brittany Zanzalari. Freshman OF
Kasey Meckes reached on a fielders choice, and McNeil, Zanzalari and Meckes all scored on the two-base hit.
Stettler scored the fourth run of the inning on an RBI single by sophomore OF
Rebecca Smith after freshman OF
Kacie Killeen reached on an error.
Wright allowed five hits, walked three and struck out one in her first career complete game in the circle.
The win is ESU's first of the season and the 100th career win for head coach
Jill Fuduric, who is in her sixth season with the Warriors.
Pfeiffer (9-17) won the opener, 2-1, getting a game-tying single and go-ahead double with two outs in the sixth inning off ESU freshman
Shaylyn Wood, who limited the Falcons to three hits before the final inning.
McNeil hit her first career home run in the fourth inning for ESU's only run off Melanie Conklin, who gave up two hits, struck out 10 and walked two. Conklin stood to be the hard-luck loser until driving in the go-ahead run with her double after leadoff hitter Celia Dew came through with the tying single.
Wood allowed six hits, walked four and struck out one for the Warriors (1-9). She stranded at least one runner in every inning, including leaving the bases loaded in the second and getting out of the first and fifth with a runner on third base.
ESU plays twice on Tuesday, taking on Winona State (Minn.) and American International, before an off day on Wednesday. The Warriors finish their 10-game trip with two games each on Thursday and Friday.
