EASTON – Junior Corinne Fitzgerald (3000m steeplechase) and junior Matt Tholis (javelin) both hit NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards and junior Lauren Ventrella broke her own school record in the 100m hurdles to lead East Stroudsburg University at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational on Sunday at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex.

Fitzgerald, a participant in the NCAA Championships last spring and the school record holder in the steeplechase, ran a time of 10:58.15 to add her name to the 2012 provisional list.

Tholis, who already had a provisional mark in the javelin, threw nearly 16 feet further than his previous mark. His mark of 209-3 should rank in the top five in Division II after this week's performance list is compiled.

Ventrella ran 14.72 in the 100m hurdles, one-hundredth faster than the school record of 14.73 she set as a freshman at the PSAC Championships. She was also fourth in the 400m hurdles in 1:07.31.

Three other Warriors and two relays joined Fitzgerald, Tholis and Ventrella as individual winners in the meet, which included five Division I schools – Lafayette, Lehigh, Monmouth, Rider and St. Joseph's – and Division III Muhlenberg.

ESU placed third on the men's side behind Lafayette (137.5) and Rider (133.5) with 104 points, ahead of Lehigh with 93 points. The women were fourth with 110.5 points.

Sophomore Nicole Brown won the 400m dash in 57.84 seconds to give the women three individual winners, and a host of Warriors were runner-up in their events.

Freshman Danielle Smith was second in both the 100m dash (12.22) and 200m (25.97), with sophomore Rachel Pierantozzi placing sixth in the 100 in 12.64 seconds.

Ventrella, Brown, Pierantozzi and Smith teamed for a time of 48.10 seconds to win the 4x100m relay. The quartet set the school record in 47.44 two weeks ago at Lynchburg.

Senior Rose Mascoli was second in the 3000m (10:12.77) and fourth in the 1500m (4:47.25). Sophomore Kim Wernerspach was seventh in the 1500 in 4:49.10.

In the women's field events, senior Devyn Emerich was second in the high jump at 5-5, sophomore Laura Beimfohr was second in the pole vault at 11-1 3/4, junior Aniyah Williams was second in the long jump at 16-11 with junior Lauren Hannan placing fourth (16-6 3/4), and senior Jenn Alpers was fourth in the triple jump (33-6 3/4).

For the men, senior Ian Melhorn and freshman Donovan Tolbert both had career firsts to join Tholis as individual winners.

Melhorn, the PSAC Men's Track Athlete of the Meet and the 200m champion during the indoor season, ran the open 400m outdoors for the first time in his career and won in 49.79 seconds.

Tolbert won the triple jump in his career meet with a mark of 45-8 1/2.

The Warriors' 4x400m relay also won and the 4x100m relay finished second. In the 4x400, sophomore Keith Parker-Washington, Melhorn, freshman Derrick Washington and freshman Damien Boham won in 3:19.79. The 4x100 squad of freshman Brandon Mercer, Parker-Washington, freshman Robert Fearon and Melhorn was second in 41.93 behind Lafayette's time of 41.19.

Mercer posted the ninth-fastest time in school history in the 100m dash in 10.88 seconds and placed fourth. Boham was third behind Melhorn in the 400m in 60.06.

Junior Mike Saparito (1:54.48) and senior Sam Janssen (1:54.53) both ran strong times to place fourth and fifth in the 800m. Janssen's time is seventh in school history and Saparito holds the school record in 1:52.96.

In the distance events, sophomore James Romano was second in the 3000m steeplechase in 9:37.57 and junior Amr Aldeen was sixth in the 3000m in 8:48.26.

In field events, junior Kyle Soden tied for second in the high jump (6-4 3/4) and Parker-Washington was third in the long jump (20-10 3/4). Tolbert was fourth in the long jump (20-3) to go with his winning mark of 45-8 1/2 in the triple jump.
