SHIPPENSBURG – Shippensburg held a three-goal halftime lead, then scored the first four goals of the second half to hold off East Stroudsburg University for a 16-10 win in PSAC lacrosse on Saturday in south-central Pennsylvania.

Senior attack Grace Gunkel, coming off a seven-goal game in a 13-12, come-from-behind win over Millersville on Wednesday, had three goals in the first half to lead the ESU offense. Senior midfielder Maure Perrymond and sophomore attack Nicole Miller also scored two goals.

The Warriors trailed 5-1 early before back-to-back goals by Gunkel and Miller cut the deficit in half. A goal by senior midfielder Kelsey Pfautz and two more by Gunkel made it 7-6 with 10 minutes left in the first half, but Shippensburg scored four of the last six goals in the half and added the first four of the second period.

Jessica Schubach had five goals and three assists and Lauren Hauck and Lindsey Kennedy both had three goals and two assists for the Lady Raiders (7-5, 3-4).  Bennett Widlake also added three goals.

Perrymond, who leads Division II in caused turnovers, added four more to push her season total to 36. She also has team-highs with 37 draw controls and 36 ground balls and has scored eight goals to go with her team-leading 12 assists.

Junior attack Sarah Ginn scored her 29th goal of the season and freshman midfielder Emily Powell added her fifth. Gunkel's 10 goals this week give her 27 on the season.

ESU (4-9, 2-6) has three games remaining on its schedule, including its final two home games next weekend. The Warriors host Slippery Rock on Friday at 2 p.m. and Edinboro on Saturday at 1 p.m.
