WILKES-BARRE – East Stroudsburg University won two doubles matches, two of the three three-set singles matches and had a pair of straight-set wins at the top of the lineup to come away with a 7-2 win over King's College in non-conference women's tennis on Monday.
ESU got singles wins from senior
Amanda Kaufman at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2), freshman
Allison Bean at No. 2 (6-3, 6-0), freshman
Elizabeth Longenhagen at No. 4 (3-6, 6-4, 10-6), sophomore
Allison Schafer at No. 5 (6-3, 7-5) and freshman
Taylor Presby at No. 6 (6-4, 5-7, 10-4).
The Warriors' only singles setback came at No. 3, where junior
Rabecca Lausch fell 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 to Emily Biffen.
Lausch and Longenhagen had an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and junior
Annie Vega and Presby won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to open the day.
Kaufman's win was her 49th overall in singles action in her four years at ESU and her 41st at No. 1 in duals going into this weekend's PSAC Individual Championships at Bloomsburg. She improved to 12-2 this spring and 14-6 overall as a senior.
She will have an opportunity to join former teammate
Jamie Ferrigno, who won 52 matches from 2008-11, as 50-win players for the Warriors.
Katie D'Ambrosia, last year's PSAC East Player of the Year, finished with 49 singles wins. D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno both had 59 doubles wins, including a 55-27 record when paired together.
ESU finishes the 2011-12 season with a 6-16 record after reaching postseason play for three straight seasons, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2010. The Warriors won five of their final seven duals this spring.
