EAST STROUDSBURG – Abbey MacKessy scored seven goals and Edinboro held off East Stroudsburg University's late comeback for a 14-13 win in PSAC lacrosse on Saturday at Whitenight Field.

ESU recognized its five seniors before the game – Grace Gunkel, Molly McLenigan, Maure Perrymond, Kelsey Pfautz and Amanda Simms – as they played their final home game for the Warriors. The seniors were part of two PSAC Tournament teams, including last year's team that won 16-8 at Gannon in the first round for ESU's first postseason win since 1986.

Gunkel scored three goals for her fourth straight hat trick and sixth of the season. Junior attack Sarah Ginn led ESU with four goals and two assists, sophomore attack Sarah Studdiford had two goals and three assists and sophomore attack Nicole Miller added two goals to tally in her 11th straight game.

ESU trailed 9-6 at halftime and fell behind 10-6 on Mackessy's fifth goal of the game a minute into the second half, but rallied to get within 10-9 on goals by Gunkel, Studdiford and Ginn. Three of the next four goals went to Edinboro, with Mackessy's seventh goal putting the Warriors behind 13-10 with less than 12 minutes to play.

Neither team scored until Gunkel's third goal of the game made it 13-11 with 2:52 remaining. Miller scored to bring ESU within a goal with 2:03 left, but Edinboro went back up 14-12 on a goal by Shannon Rohrick with 1:29 remaining. Ginn scored with 56 seconds left but Edinboro won the ensuing draw control.

After a turnover in the last half-minute, ESU had one more shot at the tying goal but Edinboro's Teresa Fiori had a save in the final 10 seconds to preserve the win.

Gunkel's three goals give her 33 on the season, two behind Ginn for the team lead. Miller has 29 goals, Studdiford has 15 and Perrymond has nine goals and 13 assists. Freshmen Rachel Sihlanick (10 goals this season) and Alexa Webb (two goals) also scored on Saturday.

Simms made seven saves in her 39th career start in goal for the Warriors. Fiori had 13 saves for Edinboro. ESU held a 29-24 advantage in shots on the afternoon.

Perrymond, who leads Division II in caused turnovers per game, had two after recording five in a 20-9 loss to Slippery Rock on Friday. Perrymond has 43 caused turnovers in 15 games, with the final game scheduled for Thursday at Bloomsburg.
