BETHLEHEM – Senior Devyn Emerich hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in the high jump and junior Russell Hedrick improved his provisional mark in the javelin as East Stroudsburg University prepared for next week's PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Lehigh Invitational.

Emerich cleared 5-7, a career outdoor best and the #5 mark in school history, and was one of four individual winners for ESU. The mark is also tied for the best in the PSAC this year going into the PSAC Championships, where she is a six-time scorer and has placed in the top three on three occasions.

Hedrick hit a throw of 196-9 in the javelin, sixth-best in the PSAC this season, after setting his previous PR of 194-5 last week at ESU's All-American Meet. Also on Saturday, junior Matt Tholis placed third in the men's college javelin at the Penn Relays at 208-4, one foot off his #11 mark in Division II of 209-4.

Hedrick placed fourth in the field and finished behind two unattached throwers with ESU connections who are preparing for the U.S. Olympic Trials. Barry Krammes, a two-time All-American in 2002 and 2003, won the event at 238-1. Josh Hontz, the Division II runner-up last year who is taking a redshirt, was third at 217-3.

The Warriors' other three individual winners were junior Lauren Ventrella in the women's 200m (26.47), junior Aniyah Williams in the women's 100m hurdles (15.36) and freshman Brandon Mercer in the men's 100m dash (11.21).

Five Warriors hit PSAC qualifying standards in the last chance to get into next weekend's meet – Ventrella in the 200, sophomore Kim Lowry in the 1500 (5:00.89), sophomore Chris Schneider in the 1500 (4:02.54), freshman Donovan Tolbert in the high jump (6-2 3/4) and freshman Travis Toth in the shot put (43-5 1/4). Ventrella is tied for 4th in the PSAC in the 100m hurdles and Tolbert is 2nd in the triple jump.

Sophomore Kim Wernerspach ran a personal best 2:19.91, just outside ESU's top 10 list, to improve on her PSAC qualifying time in the women's 800m. Freshman Casey Ciaston improved his men's shot put mark to 46-7 1/4.

The Warriors also sent 19 athletes to compete at the Penn Relays this week, including Ventrella who ran in the women's 4x200m relay on Friday.

The PSAC Championships, hosted by Bloomsburg, will be contested from Thursday through Saturday (May 3-5).
