EAST STROUDSBURG – Kutztown collected 12 hits in both games and Katie Lynch hit two home runs in one inning in the opener as the No. 5-ranked Golden Bears improved to 34-1 by taking a PSAC East softball doubleheader at East Stroudsburg University on Friday at Zimbar Field.
Kutztown, which extended its winning streak to 26 games and finishes the first half of PSAC East play at 8-0, used an eight-run fourth inning for a 9-1 (6 inn.) win in game one. They scored three runs, all unearned, in the sixth to pull away for a 7-2 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, senior 1B
Brittany Zanzalari gave the Warriors (9-20, 3-5) a 1-0 lead with a solo homer, her third of the season, to lead off the second inning.
Freshman
Taylor Webb retired nine of the first 13 batters she faced in the circle for ESU and got two strikeouts with the bases loaded to end the second, but Kutztown's bats came alive in the fourth.
The Golden Bears had eight hits in the inning, including a pair of solo homers by Lynch and a three-run shot by Kelly Fitzgerald, to put eight runs on the board. They added another run in the sixth on an RBI single by pitcher Samantha Derr, who improved to 16-0 with a complete game six-hitter, striking out five without issuing a walk.
In the second game, the Warriors rallied to get within 3-2 in the fourth after Kutztown scored three runs in the second.

Jamie Smith all singled to load the bases, and ESU capitalized on a throwing error by starting pitcher Tori Marcavage on a force play at the plate to score two runs.

Laura Suits in the second inning, blanked Kutztown for three innings before the Golden Bears got three unearned runs in the sixth. Kutztown added an insurance run in the seventh.

McKay was charged with two earned runs in the second inning before finishing with 4.2 IP, three strikeouts and no walks allowed while giving up nine hits. Freshman
Marianne Wright pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Derr was the winning pitcher in both ends of the twinbill, throwing the 6.0-inning complete game in the opener and the final 3.2 innings, giving up one hit, in the nightcap. She was also 3-for-6 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. Marcavage pitched the first 3.1 innings, struck out five and gave up six hits.
Morgan Booth had a pair of two-hit games at the bottom of the Kutztown lineup, going 4-for-7 with a triple, three RBI and three runs. Five other players had three hits, including Derr.
ESU finishes a three-doubleheader week with a non-conference match-up against Slippery Rock on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Zimbar Field.
