LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Juniors Matt Tholis and Russell Hedrick both hit the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard in the javelin at Georgian Court's Last Chance Meet on Sunday afternoon.
Tholis, ranked ninth in Division II with a mark of 212-6, threw 206-11 to go over 200 feet for the fifth time this season. Tholis hit his PR last week at the PSAC Championships, where he was the runner-up.
Hedrick improved on his NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 197-2 after placing sixth in the PSAC at 187-7. His previous PR was 196-9 on April 28 at Lehigh.
Senior Ian Melhorn and the men's 4x100m relay also competed in their final shot at reaching the NCAA Championships. Melhorn was second in the 200m in 21.88, and the 4x100 relay of freshman Brandon Mercer, sophomore Keith Parker-Washington, freshman Robert Fearon and Melhorn ran 41.77.
Melhorn finished his three-year career at ESU as a six-time PSAC relay champion and nine-time NCAA provisional qualifier. He was an All-American in the 4x100 relay in 2010 and anchored the relay to its second PSAC championship in three years this spring in 40.98. He also won the PSAC indoor title in the 200m this winter.
