EAST STROUDSBURG - Freshman forward
Sammi Jo Hughes scored two goals and sophomore forward
Courtney Keller had a goal and an assist as East Stroudsburg University remained unbeaten, ending Gannon's unbeaten and unscored upon start in the process, with a 3-2 victory in PSAC women's soccer on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Hughes scored 1:34 into the game, assisted by Keller, to end Gannon's scoreless streak at 459:31 in its five straight victories to open the season. She added her second goal of the game, and third of the season, in the 17th minute before Gannon (5-1, 2-1) pulled within 2-1 at halftime on Kaitlyn Kissell's goal 2:03 before the break.
Keller scored 15 minutes into the second half, her second goal in as many days, assisted by junior forward
Kerri McClay to give the Warriors another two-goal cushion. Gannon cut it to 3-2 when Sammy Valloud scored just over three minutes later.
Junior goalkeeper
Brittain Wagner made eight saves for the Warriors, who were outshot 19-16 on the afternoon. Sarah Geffel had two saves for Gannon.
ESU (3-0-2, 2-0-1) is unbeaten through five games for the fifth time in school history - 1992, 1994, 1995, 1999 and now 2012. The Warriors posted a 3-0 shutout of Mercyhurst on Friday and are home twice next week, hosting Molloy in a non-conference game on Tuesday and Kutztown in their next PSAC game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
