Maddie Hutchison had 50 digs, the most for an East Stroudsburg University player since 2006, in a 3-2 win over Concord as the Warriors split a pair of five-set matches on the second day of this weekend's tournament at Shepherd University.
ESU went 2-1 on the weekend, with a 3-1 win over Glenville State on Friday, the win over Concord on Saturday and a 3-2 loss to West Virginia State. The Warriors stand 4-4 on the season, matching their win total from 2011.
Hutchison's 50 digs were supported by senior
Katie O'Neill (29), junior
Allye Preziosi (18) and senior
Kaitlin Behrens (16) as the Warriors had 125 digs against Concord. The Mountain Lions had 33 kills and 12 errors on 186 attacks in the five-setter.
ESU rallied from a set down to win 25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 26-24, 15-12.
Offensively, Behrens and sophomore
Annabelle Charlton both had 14 kills on more than 50 attacks each. Redshirt junior middle blocker
Megan Plumb added 11 kills and Preziosi had seven kills and 42 of the Warriors' 54 assists. SEU hit .135 with 60 kills, 32 errors and 208 attacks.
Against WV State, the Warriors won the first two sets, 25-22, 25-20, but the Yellow Jackets came back to win the final three, 25-18, 26-24, 15-6.
Behrens had a team-high 15 kills, Charlton had 12 and sophomore middle blocker
Abby Welch had 10. Preziosi added seven kills, 39 assists, nine digs and six block assists.
Hutchison had 22 digs and Charlton had 14, and ESU had 13.0 total blocks. Plumb had one solo block and six assists and Preziosi (six block assists), Welch (six) and Behrens (five) also contributed at the net.
On Friday, Behrens had a career-high 21 kills, the first 20-kill match for an ESU player since 2007, in the Warriors' 3-1 win vs. Glenville State.
ESU faces PSAC competition in 18 of its final 19 matches this season, beginning next weekend (Sept. 21-22) with a crossover at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Warriors host Mercyhurst, Edinboro and Gannon for three matches with those schools also taking on Shippensburg.
