EAST STROUDSBURG – Anna Behm scored the game's only goal with 14:35 left in the second half as Kutztown notched a 1-0 win over No. 9-ranked East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East field hockey on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
Behm's goal, her first of the season, gave Kutztown (3-4, 1-1) its first win at ESU since 2008 and ended the Golden Bears' four-game losing streak.
ESU (3-4, 0-2), which had alternated wins and losses in its first six games, outshot Kutztown 8-4 in the first half but the visitors held a 12-4 edge in the second half. Senior goalkeeper
Sarah Dobroskey made 10 saves for ESU, seven in the second half.
The Warriors, ranked third in Division II with 4.33 goals per game, were held scoreless for the first time since both games against Bloomsburg last season. Karly Waltman had three saves for Kutztown, all in the first half.
The scoreless first half was the first in a game involving ESU since a 2-1 (OT) loss to C.W. Post on Sept. 13 last season.
ESU travels to No. 3 Bloomsburg on Saturday and hosts No. 2 West Chester next Tuesday, part of a four-game stretch in which the Warriors will see the top three teams in the NFHCA poll. The Warriors fell to No. 1 Shippensburg, 3-1, on Saturday.
