EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior back Michelle Gogolen scored the game's only goal with 2:03 left until halftime as East Stroudsburg University continued its unbeaten start, improving to 4-0-2 (3-0-1 PSAC) with a 1-0 win over annual PSAC women's soccer contender Kutztown on Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Warriors, one of 22 unbeaten teams in Division II entering the week, earned their first win over Kutztown (5-3, 4-1) since 2008 and handed the Golden Bears their first conference loss. Kutztown has played in the PSAC championship game in two of the last three years.

Gogolen's goal, the second of her career, came off a corner kick late in the first half. She is one of eight players who have scored the Warriors' 11 goals this season.

ESU applied consistent pressure through both halves, with eight shots in the first and six in the second, and held a 14-7 advantage for the game.

Junior goalkeeper Brittain Wagner helped the Warriors secure their second shutout in three games with a fine save with 20 minutes left, one of two on the night. Wagner posted her sixth career shutout, and fifth solo shutout, and improved to 9-4-3 in goal over the last two years.

The Warriors shut out Mercyhurst, 3-0, and knocked off previously unbeaten Gannon, 3-2, last weekend for their first two conference wins. They have allowed just five goals in the first six games.

ESU's last win over Kutztown came by a 2-0 score in 2008. Since then, Kutztown had won five straight, including a quarterfinal victory in the 2009 PSAC Tournament.

The Warriors' unbeaten start is now the longest since winning six straight to open the 1995 season. They won 13 straight during the 1994 PSAC championship season and started 6-0-1 in 1992, ESU's first season of varsity women's soccer.

ESU hits the road for four straight games after a three-game homestand, beginning Monday with a  non-conference game at Mercy College. The Warriors are at IUP and Clarion next Friday and Saturday, and Lock Haven the following Wednesday.
