EAST STROUDSBURG – Defending NCAA Division II champion West Chester, which moved back into the No. 1 spot in the NFHCA poll on Tuesday, improved to 7-1 on the season with a 3-0 win over No. 10 East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East field hockey at Whitenight Field.
ESU (3-6, 0-4) got a career-high 17 saves from senior goalkeeper
Sarah Dobroskey as West Chester held advantages of 30-7 in shots and 15-4 in penalty corners.
The Golden Rams (7-1, 4-0) scored twice in the first 16 minutes, on goals by Kayla Gluchowski and Megan Callanan. Michele Schrift scored 13 minutes into the second half.
Kristin Arnold made five saves for West Chester, which had its fourth straight shutout and has outscored its opponents 24-3 during its current six-game winning streak.
The Warriors played the No. 1-ranked team in Division II for the second time in 10 days. Shippensburg, which beat West Chester earlier this year, was No. 1 when it notched a 3-1 win over ESU on Sept. 15. ESU also fell at No. 3 Bloomsburg, 6-4, on Saturday after a 1-0 loss to Kutztown.
ESU will look to end its four-game losing streak, its longest since the same stretch of opponents last season, with a trip to western Pennsylvania this weekend. The Warriors play two non-conference games, at Seton Hill on Friday and No. 4-ranked IUP on Saturday.
