Warriors Field Hockey Posts 5-0 Shutout at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG – Junior midfielder Brielle Kessel opened the scoring with her first goal of the season and East Stroudsburg University scored four goals in a 15-minute span in the second half in a 5-0 shutout of Seton Hill in non-conference field hockey on Friday afternoon.

Kessel scored 6:20 into the game on an assist from freshman forward Ally Roth and senior forward Lauren Ventrella opened and closed the 4-0 run with goals in the 42nd and 57th minutes of the second half for ESU (4-6), which ended a four-game losing streak.

Sophomore forward Jessica Lawville scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year just three minutes after assisting on Ventrella's first goal to make it 3-0.

Senior midfielder Mallory Pope had her second goal of the season at the 50-minute mark, and Ventrella finished the scoring on an assist from Kessel.

Two ESU goalkeepers, senior Sarah Dobroskey (five saves) and freshman Alexis Charles, combined on the Warriors' second shutout of the season. ESU had allowed 13 goals during its four-game slide, which included three games against teams ranked in the top three in Division II.

Autumn Reid had eight saves for Seton Hill (4-6), which was outshot 21-6. ESU held a 12-1 advantage in the second half.

Ventrella scored the 20th and 21st goals of her career and has eight goals and five assists on the season. Lawville (nine goals, three assists) and Roth (eight goals, four assists) have combined with Ventrella for 25 of ESU's 35 goals and 12 of the 20 assists through 10 games.

ESU, ranked No. 10 in this week's NFHCA Division II poll, heads to No. 4-rated IUP (9-2) for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday.
