CLARION - Senior midfielder
Cree Julian and senior forward
Ashley McKenna scored goals nine minutes apart on either side of halftime as No. 16-ranked East Stroudsburg University blanked Clarion, 2-0, in PSAC women's soccer on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Julian scored in the 40th minute, assisted by senior midfielder
Sarah Garman, and McKenna scored in the 49th minute at the start of the second half. Junior goalkeeper
Brittain Wagner had four saves for her third shutout of the season, all coming in the last five starts.
Julian's goal was her third of the season, tying for the team lead with freshman forward
Sammi Jo Hughes. McKenna scored her second goal of the year as ESU has had eight different goal scorers (15 overall) in its first nine games.
ESU (5-2-2, 4-1-1 PSAC) ended its two-game slide after falling at Mercy, 3-1, and IUP, 2-1, for its first two losses of the season earlier this week. The Warriors won for the first time as a ranked team under head coach
Rob Berkowitz, and are ranked for the third time in the last five years.
The Warriors improve to 7-1 all-time against Clarion (1-7-2, 1-6) and avenged a 4-1 loss at Memorial Stadium in their 2010 conference opener. ESU held a 24-6 advantage in shots and Clarion's Laura Saussol made 15 saves.
ESU is at Lock Haven next Wednesday before hosting Slippery Rock on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. as part of Homecoming festivities on campus.
