Nate Silverthorn had his first career pin and redshirt junior
Brendan McKeown won by technical fall to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 35-9 win over Ohio Valley to open this weekend's Super Region 1 Duals at Newberry College.
ESU won four matches on the mat and three others by forfeit to improve to 4-5 on the season. The Warriors take on Anderson (S.C.), No. 4-ranked Newberry and Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) on Saturday.
Silverthorn had a second-period pin (3:52) of Eli Stewart at 157 pounds as the Warriors rested starter
Braden Turner, a returning All-American, before Saturday's action.
McKeown, also a returning national qualifier, improved to 9-1 overall and 5-1 against Division II competition with a 17-1 technical fall over Kobina Henriques at 174 pounds.
Freshman
Tyson Searer, ranked No. 5 in Division II at 197 pounds, pulled out a 5-3 decision over Chase Long in the first tiebreaker of their bout. Searer is 10-6 on the season (8-2 vs. DII).
Sophomore
Joseph Hoy won a 6-0 decision at 141 pounds. Junior
