EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore forward
Sammi Jo Hughes scored East Stroudsburg University's goal in the 49th minute, but Clarion evened the score in the 72nd for a 1-1 (2OT) tie in PSAC women's soccer on Wednesday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
ESU (5-2-1, 5-2-1) held a 36-7 advantage in shots - 15-1 in the first half, 14-4 in the second half and 7-2 in overtime - but Tirzah Blackstone scored on Clarion's only corner kick.
Laura Saussol had 19 saves for the Golden Eagles (3-3-3, 3-3-3).
ESU senior goalkeeper
Brittain Wagner, the PSAC leader in goals against average (0.43) and save percentage (0.925) entering the game, had three saves for the Warriors.
Hughes' goal was her second of the season and was ESU's first since she scored the first goal in a 2-1 (OT) win at Bloomsburg on Sept. 18. The Warriors fell 1-0 against Lock Haven and West Chester their last two times out after a 5-0 start.
ESU is 3-0-7 in its last 10 overtime games since the start of 2011, a scoreless streak of 163:04. The Warriors hold a 7-1-1 advantage in the all-time series against Clarion and won 2-0 the last two years.
The Warriors are at IUP on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start before hosting Millersville on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
