EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore forward Sammi Jo Hughes scored the game's only goal in the 31st minute and East Stroudsburg University held a 30-0 advantage in shots in blanking Chestnut Hill, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer on Monday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Hughes' goal, her fourth of the year and the eighth of her career, came on a rebound after a shot by freshman midfielder Shea Neal, who was credited with the assist.

The Warriors (8-4-2) secured a winning record for the fifth time in seven seasons under head coach Rob Berkowitz with a win in their only non-conference game of the season. They have a 7-4-2 PSAC record for 23 points and sit in the eighth and final playoff spot going into their final three games, all on the road.

Samantha Pauls made 12 saves for Chestnut Hill (4-9-1) as ESU had 16 shots in the first half, 14 in the second and five corner kicks in each half.

Hughes scored for the second straight game after she was one of three goal scorers in a 3-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday night. Neal had a goal and two assists in that game and leads ESU with 13 points on five goals and three assists.

ESU recognized its four seniors before the game and goalkeeper Brittain Wagner had her 17th career shutout (15th solo) without facing a shot. She ranks second at ESU in career shutout and first in solo shutouts, which have been kept since 2003.

Wagner moved into third at ESU in career goalkeeper minutes played (3972:58) and lowered her career goals against average to 0.95, second in school history. She has played 1302:44 with a 0.62 goals against average this year, and leads the PSAC in save percentage at 0.875.

Senior back Michelle Gogolen, a two-time All-PSAC selection, made her 64th career start and played in her 68th game for the Warriors. Forward Kerri McClay made her 50th start in her 67th appearance and has 13 career goals. Midfielder Katie Metrokotsas played in her sixth game for ESU in the last two years after missing her first two seasons due to injury.

The Warriors improve to 34-27-8 (.551) in the last four years with trips remaining to Slippery Rock on Friday, California on Saturday and Edinboro next Thursday. All three schools are in the top four in the PSAC standings as ESU looks to return to the PSAC playoffs after advancing to the semifinals a year ago.
