KUTZTOWN - East Stroudsburg University led by nine points with 12 minutes left, and three points with 38.0 seconds left in regulation, but Kutztown rallied for a 59-58 win in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.
A driving layup by sophomore guard
Tyeca Reviere put the Warriors ahead 57-54 in the final minute, and Kutztown's Natalya Lee cut it to 57-56 with a layup with 27.0 seconds left.
After junior guard
Ryann Fiascki made 1-of-2 at the line for the Warriors with 20.9 seconds left, Jess Harvey got a layup to go, was fouled and completed the three-point play to give Kutztown a 59-58 lead - its only advantage of the second half - with 7.2 seconds to go.
ESU called timeout and Fiascki pushed the ball up the floor on the ensuing inbounds play, but Alyssa Bonenberger had a steal with two seconds left and the Golden Bears (3-2, 1-0) held on.
ESU (1-2, 1-1), coming off a 63-56 win over Mansfield in its PSAC East opener on Wednesday, trailed for most of the first half but pulled even at 24-24 at halftime.
A 10-2 surge early in the second half gave the Warriors their largest lead of the game (41-32) with 11:50 to play. Kutztown cut it to 50-49 with 4:00 left before sophomore guard
Melissa Poderis knocked down a three for a four-point lead with 3:32 remaining.
Freshman guard
Audrey Stapleton knocked down a jumper to put ESU ahead 55-49 with 2:10 left, but Lee hit a layup and Campbell converted a three-point play to get Kutztown back in it.
Bonenberger had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Kara Funk had 13 points to lead Kutztown, which shot 34.0 percent (16-for-47) from the field and was 25-for-32 at the foul line.
Junior forward
Jessica Martin had 10 points and four rebounds for ESU. Fiascki had nine points, sophomore guard
Helena Gemmell had eight points and seven rebounds, and Reviere had seven points and three assists. Poderis had three points, five rebounds and five assists.
ESU shot 38.8 percent (19-for-49), made four of nine three-point attempts and was 16-for-20 at the foul line. Kutztown had a 19-14 advantage in turnovers forced.
The Warriors' next action will come in the 49th Annual Pocono Classic on Saturday and Sunday (November 30 and December 1) at Koehler Fieldhouse.
