MILLERSVILLE - Junior outside hitter Abby Welch had a career-high 22 kills as East Stroudsburg University lost a hard-fought 3-1 match at Millersville in PSAC East women's volleyball on Friday night.

Welch had half of ESU's 44 kills, junior outside hitter Shannon Hillsinger had 10 and junior middle blocker Elizabeth Higley added seven for the Warriors (6-25, 2-18).

ESU won the third set, 25-22, after falling 25-23, 25-22 in the first two sets. Millersville (15-13, 10-9) won the fourth set, 25-22.

Senior setter Allye Preziosi had 38 assists and seven digs, sophomore libero Maddie Hutchison had 20 digs and three aces and Welch added nine digs, just missing her first career double-double.

Welch is ESU's second player with 20 kills in a match this year, along with freshman outside hitter Sydney Galoozis, who had 20 against Southern Connecticut State. Kaitlin Behrens had five matches with 20 kills last year, including 27 against Kutztown.

Mary Paul led Millersville with 10 kills, followed by Katie Lesinski (9), Rebecca Roman (8) and Kayla Wallace (7). Jessica Franz had 18 assists and 11 digs, Erika Smith had 16 assists and six digs, and Brooklyn Smith had 14 digs.

The Warriors are at PSAC East leader Shippensburg (24-7, 16-3) on Saturday.
