BETHLEHEM - Junior
Travis Toth (weight throw) and sophomore
Seth Bailey (high jump) hit NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards in their season opener, leading East Stroudsburg University's indoor track and field teams at Lehigh this weekend.
Toth, who competed in the NCAA DII outdoor championships in the hammer last spring and was PSAC runner-up in both the hammer and weight throw a year ago, opened with a mark of 60-0 1/4 to win the event. His previous PR was 59-1 1/2 at last winter's PSAC championships.
Bailey, also an NCAA qualifier and the PSAC champion in the high jump during the outdoor season, opened his second indoor campaign with a mark of 6-8 3/4 and was the runner-up.
Other top performances from the men included junior
Damien Boham (2013 PSAC outdoor 400 champ), who was second in the 500m in 1:06.48, sophomore
Adam Robertino in the 60m hurdles (3rd, 8.59), sophomore
William Berry in the high jump (4th, 6-4 3/4), and sophomore
Corey Smith in the pole vault (2nd, 14-7 1/4).
Toth was sixth in the shot put at 47-7 3/4, and junior
Mike Smith was second behind Toth in the weight throw at 53-4 1/4.
The 4x400m relay of junior
Kyle Rickard, sophomore
Derrick Washington, freshman Ronald D'Elisio and Boham won in 3:25.13.
The women were led by junior
Christina O'Connor, who was just off the NCAA provisional mark in the high jump at 5-5 to place second. O'Connor was an All-American and the PSAC champion in the event last year.
The Warriors had two sprinters in the finals of the 60m dash, where senior
Rachel Pierantozzi was fourth in 7.88, and junior
Danielle Smith was sixth in 7.99. Both ran 7.89 in the prelims. Smith is the defending PSAC indoor champion in the 60m and 200m, for two of her five career PSAC titles.
ESU had three of the top five in the women's pole vault, with sophomore
Kirsten Muhaw second at 11-3 3/4. Sophomore
Julia Molloy (t-3rd) and senior
Laura Beimfohr (5th) both cleared 10-10.
Senior
Theresa Horn was third in the pentathlon with 3,104 points.
The Warriors will return to action at the Kutztown Invitational on January 11.
