Senior Kimberly Lawson broke Karen Linck's 1977 record in the 100 fly on Saturday morning at the PSAC Championships, making the championship final of the 100 fly and consolation final of the 100 back.

MECHANICSBURG - East Stroudsburg University swimmers set three school records - senior Sami Vavra in the 100 breast, senior Kimberly Lawson in the 100 fly and the 800 free relay - as the Warriors are ninth overall through the third night of the 2013 Swimming Championships, being held this weekend at Cumberland Valley High School.

Vavra placed fifth in the final of the 100 breast in 1:06.09, lowering her school record of 1:06.70 set last year. She was seventh in the prelims in 1:07.03.

Freshman Sophie Coy was ninth in the consolation final in 1:07.02 after finishing 11th in the prelims in 1:07.42. Coy was 14th in the consolation final of the 200 IM on Friday.

Lawson broke a 36-year old school record in the prelims of the 100 fly, placing fifth and qualifying for the championship finals in 58.41 seconds. She broke the record of 58.55 set by Karen Linck in 1977.

Lawson was eighth in the final in 59.00 and also made the consolation final of the 100 back, placing 16th in 1:01.08. She swam 1:00.23 in the prelims to qualify 15th for the final.

Junior Allison Schafer made the consolation final in the 400 IM, placing 13th in 4:43.53. She was 14th in the prelim in 4:45.74.

The 800 free relay of Schafer, sophomore Danielle Davis, junior Andrea Tremper and sophomore Karoline Vavra broke the school record by just over seven seconds, clocking 7:56.31 to finish eighth.

The previous record of 8:03.39 was set last year by Schafer, Mara Palazzari, Davis and Tremper.

The Warriors sit ninth in the team standings with 134 points and are 3.5 points behind eighth-place California. They are ahead of Lock Haven (115), Millersville (112), Kutztown (67) and Mansfield, which did not compete.

West Chester is closing in on its seventh straight PSAC championship with a lead of more than 200 points over Clarion.

The PSAC Championships conclude on Sunday at Cumberland Valley. ESU can secure its best finish since placing sixth in 2001-02.
