MURFREESBORO, N.C. - East Stroudsburg University started the day with a 10-run first inning and swept a non-conference softball doubleheader at Chowan, 15-2 (5 inn.) and 4-1, to finish its spring break trip on Thursday.
The Warriors (9-6) went 5-2 on the trip, going 2-1 against three WVIAC schools in Virginia, splitting a doubleheader at Winston-Salem on Tuesday and sweeping Chowan on Thursday. ESU has won 9 of its last 11 after opening 0-4.
Freshman
Amanda Carlin threw her fourth complete game of the year in the opener, allowing two runs on four hits, and freshman
Allison Mende was the winning pitcher in game two. Mende allowed just an unearned run on five hits in 6.1 innings, and junior
Laura Suits came on for the save.
In game one, the Warriors scored 10 runs (all unearned) in the first inning on four hits, two walks, a hit batter and five errors by Chowan. Freshman 3B
Kellie Mignoli had a two-run single and junior catcher
Rebecca Smith had a three-run triple to cap the inning.
ESU added another unearned run in the second, Mignoli had an RBI double in the fourth, and the Warriors scored three in the fifth on an RBI double by Smith and a two-run homer by sophomore SS
Cara Woods.
Smith was 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs, Mignoli was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Woods (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and freshman OF
Sierra Wagner (2-for-3, 2 runs) also had multiple hits. Sophomore 2B

Kasey Meckes scored three runs each.
In game two, ESU had to come from behind after Chowan scored an unearned run in the third. The Warriors had just one hit through five innings off Alora Lincoln, but came alive in the sixth.

The Warriors belted two solo home runs in the seventh to add insurance runs. Sophomore OF
Kacie Killeen led off with a homer, the second of her career, and
Rebecca Smith hit her fourth of the year (and of the trip) to pad the lead.
Chowan put two runners on with one out in the seventh, but Suits entered and got a groundout and flyout for her second career save.
Rebecca Smith led the Warriors all week, hitting .526 (10-for-19) with 3 doubles, a triple, 4 home runs, 11 RBI and 10 runs over seven games. She was 4-for-6 with a double, triple, homer, 5 RBI and 4 runs at Chowan.
ESU was scheduled to play a doubleheader at Saint Augustine's on Friday, but the series was canceled earlier Thursday.
The Warriors' next action comes at Bloomfield (NJ) on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
