BLOOMSBURG - Senior Rabecca Lausch and junior Annie Vega both won in singles and doubles to lead East Stroudsburg University to its first PSAC tennis win of the year, a 5-4 decision over Shippensburg on Saturday at Bloomsburg.

The Warriors (4-7, 1-2) fell to the host Huskies, 7-2, in their second match of the day. Their match with Cheyney was postponed and will be played on Thursday at 4 p.m. at ESU. The Warriors' match at Philadelphia University on Sunday was canceled.

ESU won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and third through fifth singles against Shippensburg (1-10, 1-3) to post a conference victory, and the Warriors' first over a Division II opponent this season.

Lausch and sophomore Allison Bean won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Vega and freshman Amina Dickson won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Shippensburg's Kaitlyn Erickson and Kayla Strohl won 8-2 over sophomore Taylor Presby and freshman Sarah DiGregory at No. 3.

In singles, four of the six matches went to three sets, while ESU won two matches in straight sets - Lausch (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3, and Presby (6-0, 6-3) at No. 5.

Vega pulled out a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 win at No. 4 singles for the Warriors. Bean (No. 1), Dickson (No. 2) and DiGregory (No. 6) all fell in their third-set tiebreaker.

Against Bloomsburg (4-7, 3-3), Dickson and Vega had a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles, and Lausch won 7-5, 6-2 over Alyssa Liples at No. 3 singles.

ESU has four matches scheduled next week - Tuesday vs. Millersville, Thursday vs. Cheyney, Friday at Kutztown and Saturday at Marywood. Friday's match at Kutztown will be the Warriors' final PSAC match of the season, with the top three (of seven) schools in the PSAC East advancing to the PSAC Championships.
