WEST CHESTER – Sophomore Kayla Grossi shot a round of 89 in the first round on Sunday to lead East Stroudsburg University's performance at West Chester's Edwin Cottrell Invitational at Penn Oaks Golf Club.

Grossi carded a 36-hole score of 188 after shooting a 99 on Monday and was the Warriors' top finisher, placing 18th in a field of 35.

Her round of 89 was ESU's third sub-90 round in the last three years, joining an 88 from Alycia Jones at Kutztown and an 89 from Malene Frost at Ursinus, both during the 2011-12 season. She shot her previous career-low of 93 at Kutztown on Saturday.

Freshman Bridget Simons was 27th at 198 (97-101), Jones was 30th at 216 (107-109) and Frost was 31st at 217 (109-108).

ESU finished sixth of eight schools with a two-day total of 819, edging Millersville by five strokes and Le Moyne by 12 strokes.

Kutztown won with a score of 699, followed by Merrimack (713), Mercyhurst (729), Seton Hill (750) and West Chester (763).

Merrimack's Ali Reed was the medalist at 165 (79-86), winning by seven strokes over Kutztown's Lauren Smith.

ESU will play at the Ursinus Invitational on Tuesday, April 16 and host the ESU Invitational at Great Bear on Saturday, April 20 to finish the spring season.
