PUEBLO, Colo. - East Stroudsburg University senior Corinne Fitzgerald qualified for the finals in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing sixth in the prelims to lead the Warriors on the first day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Colorado State-Pueblo.

Fitzgerald, in her third trip to the NCAA Championships, ran 11:02.19 to finish fifth in her heat and gain the top “at-large” spot in Friday night's final, which will be contested at 7:15 p.m. Mountain Time.

She leads three PSAC athletes who qualified for the final, along with Bloomsburg's Victoria Davis (8th, 11:07.61) and Edinboro's Kasey Jones (10th, 11:15.30).

Sophomore Travis Toth, competing in his first NCAA Championships, finished 13th in the hammer throw with a mark of 183-9. Lock Haven's Tyler Thomas and Mark Manno were 19th and 20th, respectively.

Toth entered ranked 13th with a mark of 192-8, the second-best in school history, at the Millersville Metrics on April 6. He was just off his first trip to the NCAA's during the indoor season, as he was right on the cut line in the weight throw.

ESU has three more athletes set to compete this weekend, starting with freshman Seth Bailey on Friday in the men's high jump at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time.

Senior Matt Tholis and redshirt senior Josh Hontz will go in the javelin on Saturday. Tholis, the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year, is ranked third on the national list and Hontz, the national runner-up in 2011, is ranked ninth. Both are looking for their second career All-America honor.
