PUEBLO, Colo. - Senior Matt Tholis finished as the NCAA Division II runner-up in the men's javelin with a school record of 232-0 and redshirt senior Josh Hontz was fifth, both earning their second career All-America honors as East Stroudsburg University concluded its action at the national championships on Saturday at Colorado State-Pueblo.

Tholis' mark of 232-0 is the 12th-best in Division II history and was beaten only by the division's No. 2 all-time mark, a throw of 255-10 by Alaska-Anchorage's Cody Parker. Tholis was named the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year earlier this week.

Tholis was seventh a year ago and entered the meet ranked third with a mark of 226-5, which he threw at Lafayette on March 30. He matched or exceeded the mark on three throws on Saturday, opening at 232-0, then hitting 226-5 on his third and final throw of the prelims. In the final, he bombed 231-7 on his second throw before finishing at 210-9.

Hontz, the national runner-up in 2011 before taking a redshirt season last year, had a season-best of almost 10 feet on his second mark of the day, hitting 219-4, which stood up for fifth place.

Tholis and Hontz are the second set of ESU teammates to earn All-America honors in the same event, joining Lance Branyan (4th) and Al Yackenchick (6th) in the men's javelin in 1992. They are the fourth and fifth Warriors to earn multiple All-America honors in the javelin, along with Ed Long (1971-72), Mike Revenis (1981-82) and Barry Krammes (2002-03).

Tholis was one of five automatic qualifiers in a very deep field and entered with six straight marks of at least 210-0. He was coming off a throw of 223-11 to win the PSAC championship on May 11 and ripped his school record of 232-0 in his first attempt, which held up through the rest of the afternoon. He was seventh at 213-7 last year at Colorado-Pueblo and was previously an NCAA Division III qualifier at Rowan (N.J.) in 2010.

Hontz, ranked ninth on the national list at 209-5 entering the meet, threw 209-2 on his first attempt and then hit 219-4 on his second. He was fifth entering the final and stayed in that spot, throwing 203-11, 206-11 and 212-10 to finish his career.

As a junior in 2011, Hontz finished second in the country with a school record of 225-4, which was surpassed by Tholis at Lafayette two months ago.

Tholis and Hontz are ESU's 15th and 16th men's athletes to earn multiple All-America honors.

Shippensburg sophomore Derek Nothstein gave the PSAC three All-Americans, placing sixth at 215-10. Slippery Rock's David Reinhardt was 16th and Ship's Andrew Korrubin was 16th.

Three other ESU athletes also competed over the first two days. Senior Corinne Fitzgerald made her third straight NCAA appearance in the 3000m steeplechase and placed 10th, freshman Seth Bailey was tied for 11th in the high jump and sophomore Travis Toth was 13th in the hammer.
