EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore forward Ally Roth scored two goals and No. 9-ranked East Stroudsburg University never trailed, upending No. 3 Bloomsburg for a 4-2 win in non-conference field hockey on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

The win is ESU's first over Bloomsburg since 2010 and just the sixth all-time, as the Huskies had won 15 of the last 16 meetings and hold a 44-6 margin overall. While both schools are members of the PSAC, the result goes on the non-conference side of the ledger. They will meet again in PSAC action on October 9 in central Pennsylvania.

ESU improves to 2-1 after opening with a 3-2 win over No. 5 Merrimack and falling 6-5 to No. 10 Stonehill. Bloomsburg, which lost its opener to Stonehill, 3-2 (OT), is 0-2 for the first time since 1979.

After a scoreless first half, the second half featured six goals - including three in a span of just 3:16 early in the period.

Roth opened the scoring with a penalty stroke exactly 4:00 into the second half, but Bloomsburg answered just 2:05 later as Brittany Mathews found the cage.

Roth broke the 1-1 tie just over a minute after that, scoring on a penalty corner on an assist from junior midfielder Becky Gagliardi to give ESU the lead for good.

Junior midfielder Alexis Good pushed the margin to 3-1 with her first career goal with 17:26 remaining, deflecting in a penalty corner with the assists coming from junior midfielder Katie Barbato and junior forward Jessica Lawville.

Bloomsburg cut the deficit to 3-2 with 7:56 left as Candice Smith had a deflection off a drive from Mathews on a penalty corner. But the Warriors found an answer three minutes later when junior forward Gabrielle Seibert scored on assists from Gagliardi and Roth - again off a corner - with 4:45 remaining for the game's final goal.

Both teams fired 15 shots and ESU held an 11-9 edge in penalty corners, scoring on three. The Warriors had advantages of 8-4 in shots and 4-2 in corners in the first half.

Freshman goalkeeper Madelyn Craver made seven saves for ESU, while Megan Eppley had three saves for Bloomsburg.

Roth had her second two-goal game of the season and the fifth of her career in 21 games, leading ESU with five goals and two assists this year. Roth and Seibert (four goals) have both scored in all three games.

The Warriors, who opened the year with three straight home games, are on the road for their next three. They head to Erie this weekend, taking on Limestone (at Mercyhurst) on Saturday and Mercyhurst on Sunday.
